Cork Celts hold their inaugural Saoirse Cup

With a fantastic day outside, Cork Celts held a fantastic day last Sunday inside The Mon AG as they hosted the inaugural 2025 Saoirse Cup. They welcomed Blue Demons, Blarney, Ballinhassig, Tipperary Knights, East Cork Glenmary and their own D2/D3 side Celts to the hall. A very competitive Tournament saw Blue Demons v Tipperary Knights and Cork Celts v Ballinhassig in the two semifinals. Cork Celts and Tipperary Knights going through to The Final. In a great game of basketball the Celts got the better of Tipperary on a scoreline of 52-40. Cian Fitzgerald fantastic in the Final and throughout the tournament winning the M.V.P., all due credit must go to Tipperary Knights who were a credit to their club and some fine shooting from outside the arc propelled them to The decider. This young and up and coming team will be a threat to anyone in the future. Cork Celts were delighted to take the Cup and win their inaugural and now annual Saoirse Cup.

The Celts have to thank Paul o Callaghan, Impress Cleaners for sponsoring theCup and The Cork County basketball board for helping out.  Their thanks also went to The AG school for allowing the Tournament to take place and helping out hugely today and everyday. A big thanks from the Celts went to Jason Mathews and all at o Connell’s plumbing for the cheque and their help is greatly appreciated. Thanks also went to Johannah  O’  Mahony, Barbara Coakley, Denis Crean, Kevin and Brian Ginn for doing The shop, tables and clock. Finally thanks to The Referees Pele, Stewart Joyce, and catriona barrett for a fine job and for insuring the day went off smoothly.

As they roll onto their 16th season they are already looking forward to their second Saoirse Cup.
