2nd Annual Cork County Basketball Board Coaching Conference 2023
The second annual Cork County Basketball Board coaching conference in conjunction with Cork County Ladies Board will take place on the 2nd of September 2023 at the Parochial Hall, Gurranabraher. Doors open at 9 a.m. for registration with the course commencing at 9.30am.
The main speaker for this year’s coaching conference is Adrian Fulton. Adrian is an ex Irish international who has played with and against some of the best players in the world. Captain of one of the most widely regarded Irish basketball sides Star of the Sea/Belfast Star which he led to back-to-back national league titles in 1998 and 1999. Head Coach of St. Malachy’s College, Belfast basketball and one of the Rip n’ Run basketball camp directors. Adrian is also head coach of Belfast Star.
Adrian will be joined by his father Danny Fulton. The patriarch of a family which is synonymous with Belfast Basketball renowned for his remarkable service to coaching and the national men’s programme. He has coached the Irish men’s team for all but two years between 1976 and 1998 and in those two gap years he took the national Under 19 team, which would record Ireland’s first underage success in European competition. Coach of various St. Gall’s and Star of the Sea underage and national league, winning coach of the Under 19 National Cup final. Three consecutive national top four championships and two super league titles and contesting four national cup weekends while also serving as one of the club’s administrators.
Joining the Fulton’s on the day will be Aaron O’ Connell Msc. who is an experienced sports and business coach and mental skills consultant. He is passionate about helping athletes and coaches become the best versions of themselves through the use of evidenced based coaching practices and mental skills tools. He coaches business leaders who work in high performing and highly stressed environments to embrace and drive a positive mindset in addition to the art of mindfulness. Aaron holds double master’s degrees in Applied Sport and exercise psychology and Applied Sports Coaching and is currently undertaking Phd research in sports coaching at Carnegie School of Sports in Leeds.
Claudia Kearney will be our fourth speaker, Claudia is a Athletic Development coach and holds a BSc in sports and exercise from the University of Limerick (UL) and is currently undertaking a masters by research in Munster Technological University (MTU). Claudia’s research on growth, maturation and physical performance in underage Gaelic Games development squads is a topic she will discuss on the day. Currently an Athletic development coach with Cork GAA-Rebel ÓG, Claudia will provide a live demonstration on strength and conditioning on the day.
The coaching conference is open to all coaches who have at least their introductory level coaching with 300 to 400 CPD points available. The conference is free to all coaches coaching in the Cork County Basketball Board Leagues (Men/Boys) and Cork County Ladies Board coaches (Ladies/Girls). It is also open to coaches from all over Ireland at a cost of €30 per participant.
