Dominic Foster Cork Indoor Sport Award for Basketball

The Cork Ladies Board recipient of the Cork Indoor Sport Award is Dominic Foster of Cobh Basketball Club

Dominic Foster has been involved for over 20 years with Cobh basketball, and is often the first person that comes to mind when basketball is mentioned in Cobh, and further afield.

Once a keen player, now a coach and administrator.

“Domo” has given countless hours to Cobh Basketball, bringing it back from near extinction, to a point where the club is now competing in all underage competitions in both boys’ and girls’ leagues, regularly contributing players to various Cork teams, and saw the club produce their first Irish International player.

To say Domo is kept busy in Cobh Basketball is an understatement! His current coaching remit includes U16 & U18 boys, and U15 & U16 girls, plus regular consultancy on other teams for less experience coaches.

Not content with this lot, he also serves the club as secretary.

His other roles include Southern Girls Regional Officer for Basketball Ireland’s Post Primary School League, Coach of the Cork Girls BIPPS team and coaches with the Cork Ladies Development Underage Squads.

To be honest, we wonder how he finds time to be a Maths & Science teacher in Glanmire Community College as he professes to be!

He is a person who can do a job anywhere when asked, he will do it with the utmost professionalism to the highest standards, and rarely take the plaudits that are most certainly due.
