Cork County Board and Under 14 Visit City Hall

In advance of the Euro Youth Basketball Cup which brings together boy and girls from under 12 to under 18 in basketball competition in Barcelona, Spain. The under 14 squad which is representing the Cork County Basketball Board were invited to City Hall for a special reception.

The team, their parents and members of the County Board were welcomed to City Hall by Cllr. Damien Boylan deputising for the Lord Mayor. Cllr. Boylan complimented Juan Pedro Parra Valero and son Pablo of Vive Ireland Sportswear on the gear they provided and thanked Kieran Moynihan of Petrochem, the main sponsor of the team who was on hand to present the team with their new gear. Kieran Moynihan said he was delighted to support the board and the team in Barcelona particularly with the international element to it.

Cllr. Boylan gave the boys a brief history of the City Hall to the boy and he believed it was the first time ever that a team from the board were invited to such an important event. Cllr. Boylan said that please God that basketball was coming back to the fore in Cork and he reminisced about basketball in the 1980’s. Willie McCarty, Chairman on behalf of the Cork County Basketball Board and team thanked the Deputy Mayor for the invitation to the City Hall, he thanked the parents and clubs for the fundraising for the trip and Vive Ireland Sportswear and Petrochem for their support.

The team and Board Members then had the honour of an invitation to the Lord Mayor’s Office where Cllr. Boylan he told those assembled that this was a special room where only Presidents, ambassadors, dignitaries and some special teams were invited to. Cllr Boylan said he was delighted to invite the Under 14 team into this special room. He then invited the team selectors and some of the County Board committee members to sign the visitors’ book. Cllr. Boylan wished the teams, coaches, and support staff the best of luck in Barcelona and signed off with Corcaigh Abu!
