2024 Billy Coffey Personality of the Year

At the recent Billy Kelly Tournament the Cork County Basketball Board honoured ‘Personality of the Year’. This year our award went to Ballincollig stalwart Francis O’Sullivan for his contribution to the sport over many years. Alan Coffey on behalf of the Coffey family presented Francis with the trophy and he follows Trevor O’ Callaghan and Jim O’ Sullivan into the record books as the winners of this prestigious award.

Francis, a former Super League player with North Mon and Blue Demons has consistently worked diligently with many juvenile teams at Ballincollig who also compete in the Men’s Super League under the banner of Irish Guide Dogs Ballincollig @ MTU. While also running coaching courses for Cork Basketball and Basketball Ireland

Speaking at the presentation Cork County Board chairman Willie McCarthy praised the contribution of O’Sullivan.

“I think everybody involved in the sport are only too aware of the contribution that Francis has made to the sport in this city and county and this award is a small token in saying thank to him for his incredible work. We need volunteers like Francis in every club and I am delighted that my fellow board officers were all singing from the same hymn sheet when we decided to give him this award.”

Present on the day to join in the surprise at the Parochial Hall were all for the O’Sullivan family, Francis’s mother and his brother and sisters with their families who also attended the presentation.
