An exciting game of basketball was held in Macroom Leisure centre on the 10th of December as Macroom Under 17 boys took on Mallow in a league encounter which was officiated by Paul Keohane.
The game tipped off with Cathal Neville and Adam Zielinski to the fore for their respective teams, both teams went score for score before Zielinski and Conor Carroll pushed on for Mallow towards the end of the quarter to stretch their lead to 10 points. In the second quarter Mallow continued to push this time with Carroll and Tommy O’ Sullivan scoring 17 of their 25 points scored in the quarter. The third quarter was an even affair with Jack O’ Shea, Ivan Penzor and Diamond Salami trying their hardest to narrow the Mallow lead but with Jack Corcoran adding some points to conclude the quarter 18 a piece . With coach Michael Sullivan rotating players throughout two of the 1st and 2nd quarter stars were to the fore in the fourth with Adam Zielinski and Tommy of O’ Sullivan adding to their points total as Mallow ran out comfortable winners.
Mallow who includes some of last seasons under 15 championship winning squad continue to impress at under 17 level and should be amongst the challengers this season. Credit also to Macroom as they continue to develop our sport in the Mid Cork
