Culture Weekend 3 x 3 on the Grand Parade

Culture weekend saw 3 x 3 Basketball come to the streets of Cork.  The event was hosted by Cork County Basketball Board  in conjunction with Cork City Council and Cork Sports Partnership. Thursday night saw the volunteers working until 1am to put the courts up. Friday saw schools from all over Cork come and play. Mark Scannell  Coach of UCC Glanmire Superleague team brought his 2 Americans Callie Cavanagh and Del'Janae Williams to help out . They were joined by Elijah Tillman , Sean Clancy and Tobias Christensen of UCC Demons..

Later that night saw the fun really begin culminating in Irelands first Glow in the Dark 3 x 3 Basketball event taking place on a street in a City.  Saturday and Sunday saw the competitions take place with 5 grades from un 12 to un 16 in Boys and Girls taking place. Players came from all over Cork and it was a huge success. Highlights of the weekend were the non Basketball crowd that came to watch and many stayed for hours and also on the Friday the huge number of players from abroad taking part. During the weekend the public were invited to take part in different shooting competitions for prizes . DJ and MC Extraordinaire Darren Lynam entertained the crowd the whole weekend. Thanks to Laura Coady of Cork City Council, James Kirby of Cork Sports Partnership and Harry Scally of Basketball Ireland for all your help in putting this together. It was a long weekend but well worth it and it is something that we hope will become a regular feature in Cork City and Towns
